Guest Blog - Stella Gooch VA's Photoshoot Experience

Updated: Feb 6, 2020

Hi everyone! Something wonderfully different today, the lovely Stella Gooch VA who I photographed last year has kindly written a little piece on her experience with our photoshoot. It was incredibly interesting reading this from her perspective! Without further ado, here are Stella’s words -

When you imagine having a photoshoot done it sounds glam and fun – well at least it does to me. Others may not see it that way as some do hate having their photo taken under any circumstances.

The photos on my business website are now around 3 years old and how I think and feel about what I do in my business has evolved so I thought it was time to refresh my website photos. I had long admired the distinctive photography style of Lucy Dack and it seemed like a great opportunity to experience it for myself.

I had an initial meeting with Lucy and showed her my website. We discussed some ideas and Lucy suggested colours and types of clothing to wear during my photoshoot. We agreed on 2 pm on 5 November 2019 for me to visit Lucy at her studio. At the appointed time I arrived at the Long Sutton studio where Lucy Dack Photography is based. It was an enjoyable drive and the studio turned out to be nestling in a lovely garden next to Lucy’s family home.

Lucy welcomed me with a pot of tea and we chatted non-stop about what we were going to do and made some adjustments as needed. She had set the studio up with a desk scenario for us to work with and we also spent a little time in the garden itself. Thankfully the rain behaved itself just long enough to get some nice outdoor shots.

It was so much fun that the time went by so fast and before I knew it the shoot had come to a close. We said our goodbyes and Lucy promised to send me the photo gallery to make my selections from as soon as possible. Within 24 hours my photo gallery arrived and there were more than 300 photos to choose from. It took me a little time to whittle down my options to around 60 photos but this I managed fairly quickly. Lucy then removed the photos I had discarded to make choosing easier. I took a break so I did not go completely snowblind and then returned to my gallery to further narrow down my options with the aim of finalising everything before Christmas. I then found it easy to scale my favourites down to a final 19. I had actually wanted to end up with 10 but I found it hard to do that so 19 it was!

I let Lucy know that I had finished choosing and Lucy put her final touches to them and then I received the finished photos in good time for me to revamp my website.

My next task was to decide which of my final choices would actually be used on my web pages before closing for Christmas. This proved fairly straightforward with the exception of the photo I wanted to use on the front page. It looked great on mobile devices and small screens but I was not happy with the larger/wider screens. I pondered on this over the Christmas and New Year holiday period and went back to Lucy to see if she could resolve my issues whilst having a second choice front page photo as an alternative, just in case. Lucy came back promptly having waved her magic wand and hey presto I was delighted with the result and was able to use my first choice front-page photo.

I thoroughly enjoyed my photoshoot experience with Lucy and love her photography style. She is a delight to work with and I love my new look website. If you would like to take a look then please do.

Thank you for reading! I hope you found this helpful if you've thought about booking with me, or have just wondered what it would be like. Don't forget to check out Stella's website!
